Light

Back Lighting

This picture is of a sign downtown.  It employs back lighting because the sign is lit up from behind.  The bright sky in this picture gives it a happy feel.  I like the fact that the top of a limp post is shown in the bottom of the frame.  I think that it gives the photo a sense of height.  Because most people know how tall a lamp post is, they can deduce the height of the sign from the fact that it is above the lamp post.  To edit this photo I increased the luminance of the color blue.

Silhouette

This is a picture of a tree taken from the roof of my house. The sun was setting behind the tree, making the tree a silhouette. I like this picture because of the dark blue color of the sky. I think that the dark color scheme gives the picture a sad tone. I did not edit this photo.

Chiaroscuro
Chiaroscuro is a technique that uses a contrast between light and shadow to create a desired effect.

This is a picture of my face. I took it at night using the auto timer on my camera and 9 flashlights. This photo shows chiaroscuro because of the contrast created between the light on one side of my face and the shadow on the other. I made this photo black and white because one of the flashlights I used cast an orange light on my face. I did not like the orange color, so I made the picture black and white to remove it. The darkness gives the picture a somber tone.

Reflection

This is a picture of a reflection of the sky on a building downtown. I like this picture because of the bright colors. They create a happy mood. To edit this photo I increased the saturation of the color blue.

Shadows

This is a picture of the shadow of a tree on one of the Lincoln portables. I like this picture because of its striped appearance, a stripe of blue, a stripe of red, and a stripe of green. The shadow has a slightly blurred appearance because the tree was blowing in the wind. The bold colors give this picture a happy tone.
